PS3 Motion Control may feature ‘facial recognition’

Sony’s Motion Control technology for the PlayStation 3 will feature facial recognition controls, it has been claimed.

New details of Sony’s PS3 Motion Control technology suggest that it could be a real rival to Microsoft’s Project Natal developments.

Speaking to the Mirror, Sony’s Paul Holman hinted at what Motion Control could be capable of, adding that "anything is possible".

He told the newspaper: "We have a lot of libraries in this space already to do with facial recognition, spatial recognition and gesture control.

"At the end of the day game designers and developers have to think about how they put them together."

Sony showed off its Motion Control at its E3 conference last month.

The wireless wand is capable of being tracked with the PS3 EyeToy camera, but is still in its prototype stage.

There are even suggestions that the wand has the potential to better Nintendo Wii’s MotionPlus technology add-on for its motion-sensitive remote controller.
