Sony Vaio netbook owners may be set to benefit from a new operating system with an imbedded instant internet search function.
DeviceVM’s Splashtop operating system will enable owners of Sony and other netbooks to quickly access the worldwide web.
Splashtop computers will have a branded search box within seconds of the power being switched on, enabling devices to become internet rather than desktop-orientated.
The software company has signed strategic relationships with Yahoo in the US, Baidu in China and Yandex in Russia.
Tim Mayer, vice-president of North America search and social experiences at Yahoo, said that the search distribution landscape is changing, with instant search one of the ways users are provided with internet access.
DeviceVM chief executive Mark Lee explained: "We aim to expand and drive innovation in the computing marketplace by working with web search industry leaders to deliver a simple, branded search interface at the touch of a button."
Splashtop is the operating system on the new K-series of Asus notebooks.
