Orange pay-as-you-go mobile customers are set to receive access to a free music service under a new agreement.
Those using Orange pay-as-you-go chips in a Nokia E71, Samsung i900 or Nokia 6300 phone will benefit from the new service, developed in agreement with Channel 4 and Universal Music Group.
If Orange customers keep their SIM cards’ talk time topped up by at least £10 per month, they will be able to listen to any music on the database through their mobile phone for free.
Customers will also be able to customise playlists online, which could include Universal artists Lady Gaga and Girls Aloud.
The service has been targeted at younger mobile phone users and will be available to existing and new customers.
Commenting on the new service, dubbed Monkey, chief executive of Orange Tom Alexander said: "Unlike some music services, which are either restricted to high-end more expensive handsets or have download costs, Monkey is for everyone."
