Bringing the free music service Spotify to the iPhone would broaden its appeal, according to mobile-phones.co.uk.
The streaming music service company recently approached Apple with a Spotify application for the iPhone 3G.
Apple has not yet announced its decision over whether to accept the streaming music application.
However, lead content writer for consumer website mobile-phones.co.uk believes that the appeal of a Spotify application would exceed lost iTunes revenue for Apple.
He said: "The timing of this also could not be better – T-Mobile and Orange will soon be selling the iPhone 3G as well as O2, which will almost certainly see a price war ensuing.
"The potential end result of this will be iPhone 3Gs at lower prices and the availability of an app that loads of people want, equalling loads more handset sales."
Apple announced that it had achieved a record number of 1.72 million music downloads in May 2009, with every month this year recording at least 1.5 million downloads.
