Apple releases new MacBook to rave reviews

Friday, October 23rd, 2009

Apple has released its new MacBook, complete with a number of new accessories, which has taken the IT world by storm.

Many critics have been reviewing the new machine, with most saying that its looks are impressive and continue Apple’s trend for stylish products.

Benny Har-Even, writing for ITPro, said the new computer has a “unibody construction” and feels very solid, which is a must for any modern laptop user who carries that machine around everywhere.

The only bad thing the reviewer could mention was the increased price tag of the computer, which is £50 more than the original, unless people purchase it on an online auction website.

Apple’s new battery also gives seven hours of use and a glass multi-touch trackpad, in addition to a 13-inch LED backlit display.

Chris Hall, reviewing for PocketLint.com, said that the laptop’s internal systems are similar to previous MacBooks.

One particular attraction of the computer is the bottom of it being a tactile mat, meaning it grips whatever surface it is placed on.ADNFCR-2524-ID-19424536-ADNFCR

Wireless Magic Mouse let out of the trap by Apple

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009

Apple has unveiled its new wireless Magic Mouse, which will be the first to make use of the firm’s revolutionary multi-touch technology.

Pioneered on iPhone, iPod Touch and Mac Notebook trackpads, multi-touch allows users to navigate a computer display using finger gestures on the mouse.

Instead of mechanical buttons, scroll wheels or balls, the top of the mouse is a seamless, interactive surface.

Users can scroll in any direction with one finger, swipe through web pages and photos with two fingers and click and double-click anywhere on the surface to select an item.

The device will even know when people are just resting their hand on it, while new a new laser-tracking engine ensures that the pointer is far more sensitive and responsive than traditional optical trackers.

The product will be shipping with the new iMac and will also be available as a Mac accessory in the near future.

Magic Mouse is part of a number of new products that Apple unveiled this week, including the Mac Mini, iMac and Remote.ADNFCR-2524-ID-19421119-ADNFCR

iPhone 3GS and new Palm Pre ‘cannot be separated’

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009

Apple’s iPhone 3GS and the brand new Palm Pre have tied in an online comparison between the two powerful smartphones.

Technology experts at ITPro.co.uk put the two devices through their paces, with the iPhone drawing huge praise for its App Store, which “runs rings” around the Palm, thanks to downloads such as TomTom satellite navigation and Facebook facilities.

The iPhone also came out on top in the looks category, with the website stating that Apple is “synonymous with attractive products”.

Comparing the vital statistics of the two handsets also ended in a tie, with the iPhone drawing praise for its larger screen. The cameras on the two devices are also very similar, while the Pre’s battery is not quite as strong as the Apple product.

The depth of features on both devices was also a closely fought battle, with video, Wi-Fi and Google Maps all coming up trumps.

However, the Pre did get a gold star for its superior call quality, while both handsets were noted to suffer from slight heat issues when charging and under hard usage.ADNFCR-2524-ID-19421056-ADNFCR

Apple announces new remote for its devices

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009

Apple has unveiled its new sleek aluminium remote stick, which can be used to control iPhones, iPods and iMacs.

The remote gives users who connect their iPod or iPhone to a home stereo total control over their music and video choice.

Perfect for a party, there is no need to access the device to change songs, as they can be skipped using the forward and backwards functions on the stick from anywhere in the room, while volume can also be adjusted and tracks can be paused at the click of a button.

The remote is also compatible with Apple Macs which were introduced after 2005 and have a built-in infrared receiver.

Choice over music, photos and DVDs is given through a full-screen interface known as Front Row.

When the menu button is pressed on the remote, the Mac desktop fades and the new home screen takes over, turning the machine into a virtual multimedia powerhouse.

The product will cost £15 in the UK and is expected to go on sale within the next month.ADNFCR-2524-ID-19421052-ADNFCR
