Controller-free gaming and 3D displays will enhance people’s computer experience, according to an industry expert.
Speaking at the Eurogamer Expo 2009 in Leeds, Stewart Chisam, vice president of game operations at Hi-Rez Studios, said that there will be an explosion in methods of controlling a game which goes beyond a joypad or keyboard and mouse.
He added: “There is the Wii and iPhone which have introduced new methods of gaming and then the big one next year is Project Natal [Microsoft Xbox controller]. I am interested to see whether this more immersive, 3D technology will kick off.”
Mr Chisam also said that he believes the UK and Japan are currently ahead of the US in terms of technological advancements in TV and gaming, mainly thanks to specialised university degree programmes.
The 2009 expo was attended by nearly 4,000 computer enthusiasts across two days, where demonstrations were given on latest technologies as well as upcoming game releases.
