With prices being reduced on top range TVs and Blu-ray players, staying in could now be the new going out, according to an industry expert.
Simon Heller, a spokesperson for the British Video Association, said that during, the recession, staying in and watching movies on an HDTV “makes a very affordable evening in”.
He added that the enhanced quality of Blu-ray gives “a semi-cinema experience and the best kind of quality you can get”, he added.
Nikki Moore, gadget expert for the BBC’s Something for the Weekend Programme, said that research needs to be done before making a purchase of an expensive TV or Blu-ray player so that people get exactly what they need.
She added that researching different products, such as the difference between LED and LCD TVs, will mean that people get the best out of their home entertainment system and get the top viewing experience for their budget.
