iPod Touch goes toe-to-toe with handheld giants

Apple’s iPod Touch has shown that it is a major gaming platform contender after getting four entries in an end-of-year poll.

Digital Spy’s top ten handheld games of the year was dominated by the handheld mobile device, competing with the likes of specialist gaming consoles such as the Sony PSP and the Nintendo DS.

In tenth position, the iPod’s Flight Control title has been one of the biggest selling Apple games of the year, while Wolfenstein RPG managed to roll back the years from the classic PC version to claim eighth position.

Beneath a Steel Sky came fifth, while another returning favourite, The Secret of Monkey Island, impressed many and finished fourth.

However, the top three handheld titles of the year included The Legend of Zelda on the DS, with Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars, which is available of both the PSP and DS, coming in second.

Digital Spy’s top title was LittleBigPlanet, which has made a seamless transformation from the PlayStation 3 and has been described by the entertainment website as a “work of genius”.

Last week, IGN.com picked out its favourite iPod Touch titles, with Real Racing picked out as its best game of the year.ADNFCR-2524-ID-19510901-ADNFCR
