iPod Touch and iPhone are ‘most wanted Christmas presents’

Apple’s impressive and ever-improving iPhone and iPod Touch models are the most-searched-for Christmas products of 2009, according to new figures.

Consumer electronics website Experian Hitwise said that the handheld devices came top of a study into internet traffic, with mobile phones topping the category searches.

Other gadgets such as Microsoft’s Xbox 360, Nintendo’s Wii and Sony’s PlayStation 3 also featured prominently in the research.

Research director Robin Goad said: “UK consumers are clearly holding out more for bargains this year and have been prepared to order online later. The week ending December 5th was the peak in online product searches, so searches for products during that week are a great indicator as to the hottest gifts this Christmas.”

Items such as GHD hair straighteners, Apple’s iPod Nano and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 were named in the top ten of popular online searches for Christmas presents.

Earlier this week, the iPod Touch’s popularity with gamers was illustrated as it claimed four of the top ten spots in a handheld title poll published by Digital Spy.ADNFCR-2524-ID-19516432-ADNFCR
