Nintendo Wii has ‘taken the world by storm’

The Nintendo Wii console has been an excellent entry into the console genre over in the last decade, according to an industry expert.

Eric Doyle, writing for ComputerWeekly.com, said that despite facing stiff competition from the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, the Wii has “taken the world by storm”.

“Reviewers mocked the Wii’s name and slated it as underpowered technology compared to the super-consoles it was up against. What they couldn’t have foreseen is the success of the software,” he added.

Mr Doyle also commented that the Wii’s secret weapon is its clever remote control, which makes use of built-in motion sensors.

He added that with software such as Wii Fit leading the way by latching on to the health boom, each title seems to involve a new add-on with mats, balance boards and tennis racquet modifications all proving popular.

The popularity of the Wii was shown in the Christmas gaming charts, with six titles present in the top-ten of the all-formats category.ADNFCR-2524-ID-19533756-ADNFCR
