Samsung NC10 used to play retro games

Monday, December 21st, 2009

Although netbooks are not designed for playing games, Samsung’s standout NC10 model is proving very capable in this area.

Described by PC Pro as the “best netbook of the bunch” in a review, the NC10 has been tested by numerous people around the world, with older titles running impressively smoothly on the system.

Classic shooters such as the first two Max Payne games run flawlessly, with gamers having to guide the assassin through a number of levels to gain revenge on those that had ruined his family.

Motor racing fans will also find that TOCA Touring Cars 2 will also run, giving users the opportunity to compete in the saloon car favourite series.

Older versions of the multi-million selling Championship Manager series are also perfect for playing on the NC10.

According to gamers on the Sammy Netbook community, Grand Theft Auto Vice City, Worms World Party and Quake Arena also are perfectly playable.

This means that, as well as being a great machine for producing Word documents and for watching and listening to multimedia content, games fans can also relive some of their classic titles.ADNFCR-2524-ID-19523039-ADNFCR

Internet ‘best for bargains’

Friday, December 18th, 2009

Consumers believe that the internet is helping them make more informed purchasing decisions, according to research carried out by marketing group Performics.

In the survey 45 per cent of respondents said they found the best deals online in the past month versus only 34 per cent who found bargains in store.

Generations X and Y led the economic recovery in 2009, as people between the ages of 18 and 44 outspent older consumers.

Michael Kahn, senior vice president of marketing at the organisation, commented: “Consumers have long turned to the internet to check prices and identify the best products to buy and merchants to patronise, but this year’s economic situation pushed this practice front and centre.”

Earlier this week, Interactive Media in Retail Group commented that that the idea of shopping online on Christmas Day is becoming a festive tradition.

The Daily Mail reported that over £100 million was spent on the day last year.

iPhone will be a ‘big hitter’ this Christmas

Thursday, December 17th, 2009

Christmas stockings around the UK could be filled with Apple’s iPhone and iPod Touch, according to a technology website.

Richard Sharp, founder of GadgetsandGizmos.org, said that the “versatile” products come pre-loaded with lots of great features and applications and are very easy to upgrade and enhance.

“You can do so much more than listen to music – you can play, research and organise your life on the move,” he said.

Mr Sharp added that part of the appeal of Apple’s products was based on envy from colleagues and friends who want to have the latest gadgets in their pocket.

Earlier this week, Experian Hitwise said that the iPod Touch and iPhone were the most searched for products this festive season.

It commented that visits to consumer electronics websites increased by 16.5 per cent between October 2009 and November 2009, the largest month-on-month increase in UK internet traffic to those types of websites this year.ADNFCR-2524-ID-19518914-ADNFCR

Millions of people to spend Christmas Day shopping online

Thursday, December 17th, 2009

Millions of people in the UK will be logging onto the internet to hunt for bargains on Christmas Day, according to the Daily Mail.

Major high street stores will start their sales, offering huge discounts of up to 70 per cent via the internet in the early hours of December 25th.

The newspaper reported that, last year, Christmas Day was the third biggest online shopping event of the year, with more than £100 million being spent.

A spokesperson from the Interactive Media in Retail Group said that the idea of shopping on Christmas Day is fast becoming as much a part of the festivities as turkey and the trimmings.

“The only way we Brits can enjoy the nation’s favourite leisure activity – shopping – on Christmas Day, our biggest holiday of the year, is online. So it is hardly surprising that millions of us now do a spot of Yuletide bargain hunting,” it added.

Products such as Apple’s iPod Touch and the new Nintendo Wii are expected to be those most in demand by online bargain hunters.ADNFCR-2524-ID-19518937-ADNFCR

iPod Touch and iPhone are ‘most wanted Christmas presents’

Wednesday, December 16th, 2009

Apple’s impressive and ever-improving iPhone and iPod Touch models are the most-searched-for Christmas products of 2009, according to new figures.

Consumer electronics website Experian Hitwise said that the handheld devices came top of a study into internet traffic, with mobile phones topping the category searches.

Other gadgets such as Microsoft’s Xbox 360, Nintendo’s Wii and Sony’s PlayStation 3 also featured prominently in the research.

Research director Robin Goad said: “UK consumers are clearly holding out more for bargains this year and have been prepared to order online later. The week ending December 5th was the peak in online product searches, so searches for products during that week are a great indicator as to the hottest gifts this Christmas.”

Items such as GHD hair straighteners, Apple’s iPod Nano and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 were named in the top ten of popular online searches for Christmas presents.

Earlier this week, the iPod Touch’s popularity with gamers was illustrated as it claimed four of the top ten spots in a handheld title poll published by Digital Spy.ADNFCR-2524-ID-19516432-ADNFCR
