Sky mobile app passes the million download mark

iPhone and iPod Touch users have helped make the Sky News application one of the device’s best-sellers, it has been revealed.

Earlier this month, the app passed the one million download mark, having only been available since May 2009, featuring the latest text, images, video and features covering news and sport from around the UK.

David Gibbs, general manager for mobile at Sky, said that in less than a year the company had see millions of downloads for its various applications, with Sky News proving to be an “important factor” in this.

The iPhone success has led to Sky announcing a new Sky News mobile internet service, which has been optimised for users to access from their phone.

“Now, by launching our mobile internet service beginning with Sky News, we are able to provide a tailored experience to the increasing number of customers looking to access Sky News via their mobile,” added Mr Gibbs.

iPod Touch users can also take advantage of Sky Mobile TV, which allows people to watch Sky Sports 1, 2, 3, 4 and ESPN among other channels live on their phone for around £6 per month.ADNFCR-2524-ID-19550653-ADNFCR
