Sci-fi adventure Dropship has been named as the best free game available for users of the iPod Touch.
The TechRadar report said that the title, which is similar to classic games such as Gravitar and Thrust, lets people battle gravity and shoot enemies while searching complex vector-based cave formations for allies.
Jungle Crash Land came second in the website’s poll, stating that it is a “fun freebie which wrenches ancient Peter Calver classic Air Attack (which evolved into Blitz and a billion other ‘city bomber’ games) into the present”.
In third place, Flood-It! 2 gained kudos with the reviewers for meeting the rules of great puzzlers, namely keeping things simple but making it challenging.
Gamers have to ‘flood’ the board from the top left of the screen, aiming to make it one colour using a limited number of taps.
Currently in the App Store’s top 25 free titles, Red Ball, You vs Wall and The Imbecile Test are all proving popular.
