Is MadBid a scam? Ask new Mini One Winner David from Essex

Friday, June 17th, 2011

It’s not every day you can get a brand new Mini One for almost 90% off the RRP, but it happens more often than you might expect on MadBid.com

On the way home from cricket training with his family, David from Essex noticed the Mini auction had ended. He couldn’t remember if he had left his auto bid on or not while he was out and just figured he had lost the auction.

When he later got home and found out he was the winner of a brand new Mini One for just £1,478.94, he ran straight to his wife to tell her the news. He had been bidding in secret, and as it turns out David doesn’t even have a licence! David calmly told his wife that he had won a Mini for her, and she took it as a joke. Unaware that her husband had been bidding in the auction, and having seen a Mini on the street earlier that day she’d commented “I would like that” in jest to her husband, she thought he was joking with her.

But it was no joke. After one year of participating in auctions on MadBid.com David can boast a few past wins, but even he was in shock over winning a new car. His bidding strategy for the auction was quite simple. After watching the auction for a while he thought he didn’t have a chance against some strong competitors, but then as he kept watching, he noticed some of the big bidders begin to withdraw and that’s when he stepped in and activated his auto bid.

David makes it look easy, but there is a lot of strategy that goes in to winning an auction. What advice does David have for new bidders? “Start out on the smaller auctions to build your confidence, and spend some time to learn the dynamics of the site and the strategies of your fellow bidders” said David.

David shows we are so MAD at MadBid.com that you don’t even need a licence to win a car! The brand new red Mini One David and his wife drove away in this month, is one of the 11 cars we have auctioned on the site since 2008. Cars are just one of the amazing prizes our users are winning. MadBid’s money saving shopping tips

Friday, May 20th, 2011

As the world recovers form a global recession many shoppers are looking for a bargain. Here are 6 tips from MadBid to help you save some money on everything from soup to shoes while still getting high quality products!

  1. Make a list before you go to the store and stick to it. Avoid impulse shopping as you make your way to check out. If you find something you can’t live without that wasn’t on your list, carry it around in the store for a while, and if after you have done all your other shopping you still want it, then you can decide if you should amend your shopping list.Save Money
  2. Use coupons and discounts whenever possible. Many stores have weekly newsletters and adverts where they promote sale items or offer reduced prices. Take advantage of customer rewards programs where you can earn points or get free stuff from your favourite stores.
  3. Look for factory outlets, clearance aisles, and discount racks. Also, don’t be afraid to explore the world of second hand stores or visit outdoor flea markets and car boot sales to get some gently used treasures.  Inspect your items from those areas before you purchase them to look for signs of damage. Always maintain a level of quality in your purchases and do not sacrifice that standard for price.
  4. When shopping for food buy ingredients to make your own meals instead of pre-packaged meals, or going out for dinner every night. Buy store brands instead of name brands which are usually a little lower on the shelf. Take advantage of bulk discounts, but only if you think you will use the products before they expire.
  5. Shopping online can be an easy way to comparison shop by browsing lots of different vendors.  While you find great deals online beware of some hidden costs when you shop. Shipping and handling charges can often sneak up on you, and don’t forget the value of your own time as you spend hours surfing the web researching the best values.  But with petrol prices higher than ever, you may consider the savings of ordering supplies online to be delivered to your door instead of driving to the markets.
  6. Online Auctions are a great way of saving money and getting a discount price. You have eBay, well known by most people, and you can certainly get some bargains or buy cheaper second-hand items. There are also sites like MadBid.com where items sell for 87% less than the retail price – where all items are brand new and from reputable sources. MadBid.com offers a fun way to bid for a bargain and at the same time allowing customers to walk away with top products for incredibly low prices.

We hope you have found these tips useful, but our savvy shoppers at MadBid.com always know where to go to get the best deals on brand new electronics and appliances. Our auctions sell brand new, name brand, in demand products at one-tenth of the price. Bring some fun and adventure back into your shopping quest at MadBid.com

The number 13 may be unlucky for some but not for one of our Madbidders, Gary. On 13 March 2011 he fended off other bidders to get a fantastic brand new 2011 Ford Focus Zetec for the mere bargain of £367.89 (includes cost of bids and final auction price)

Last week he picked up his car and MadBid’s MD, Juha Koski, was there to greet him and hand over the keys

Audi A3 Winner Collects His Car

Friday, February 18th, 2011

Today MadBid joined auction winner Hugh to hand over his new car, the superb Audi A3.

Bidders flocked to the auction to try and win the car but Hugh was victorious last Monday.

Hugh’s Interview

How do you feel?

Ecstatic. It’s really, really too good to be true, really. It’s really, really good.

Was there a tough battle?

Very tough battle yes, but we’re cool and calculated.

So how did you find out about MadBid?

We found out about MadBid from the times newspaper about 3 years ago, roughly. Saw how someone won a mini for £30 or something and thought she’s going to try that and her dream was to win an apple Mac at that time.

How did you decide to go for the car?

Well we’ve looked at various cars and to be honest we have bid on a lot of cars or quite a few of the cars and we’ve been a bit unlucky on some of them, but this time we decided this was going to be our car. We wanted an Audi A3 so our plan worked out well – we watched the main bidders on it, we’ve logged main bidders, we’ve watched people all the while and were cool and calculated and come in towards the end of the auction or to where believed the auction would finish.

So when you first saw MadBid did you think the prices were too good to be true?

Well yes, when you first see something like that you obviously think there is a catch with it and you think there must be some kind of trick with it. But, what we realise now there is no trick to it; it’s a totally genuine site.

What are your tips to the newcomers?

Start at the bottom and look, just look, at the big auctions and see who’s bidding on there and get used to the bidders. But try and win something easy to start off with and maybe work your way up.

What are you currently driving?

We drive at the moment, we’ve got a Landrover Freelander which is a 4-wheel-drive vehicle and we live on top of a mountain so the Landrover is a pretty essential car for this really.

What would be your dream road trip with the new car?

Wow that’s a difficult one, but I used to work in South Africa so I think maybe if I could, I couldn’t afford it at the moment, is take it over to Africa or hire the same car in Africa and drive from Durban down to Cape Town on the eastern coast, follow the garden route down by car. Fantastic.

Why would that road trip be special?

Because the scenery and countryside in South Africa is second-to-none, it’s beautiful. Well, maybe second to Wales, but still very good.

What do you do for work?

I am a Social Services Manager

How did you first find out about MadBid.com?

I think I was browsing the web for cheap deals on i-phones, when I came across MadBid and it seemed to offer the opportunity to get hold of luxury items at a fraction of the price and it looked like it could be fun.

What do you think about MadBid.com and how it works?

I think it is to MadBid’s credit that they make a clear statement on the website about responsible bidding.  In my case they also got in touch with me to check that my bids were ‘above board’ when I was bidding heavily, which was actually reassuring in the age of identity theft etc.  The terms and conditions are clearly laid out in relatively plain English, which is good.  And, providing you approach it sensibly, MadBid really can help you get luxury items for a bargain price.  Personally I would like to see more sporting goods available to bid for; specifically top end mountain bikes (i.e. those with a rrp over £2000).

What first made you bid on the Audi A3?

Honestly, the fact that it was an Audi and the value of the car. I studied previous auctions for cars on MadBid an subsequently thought up a strategy that I believed was relatively foolproof. I wasn’t looking for a car in particular, but the chance to win a high value item proved irresistible to me.

How did you feel when you had found out that you had won?

If I am being honest, the main feeling was one of relieft. The auction had gone on for a long time, and I was beginning to doubt my strategy. I was of course pleased as I have never won a major prize before, so to win a car is fantastic, but it did take a while to sink in,it all seemed a bit surreal. I think I was in shock and I do remember being flooded with adrenalin when the text came through to say I was the winner. The experience of MadBid overall has been mixed for me; I have felt excited, stressed, disappointed and triumphant – a real emotional rollercoaster!

What advice would you give to new users on MadBid.com?

Make sure you have read all of the Terms and Conditions before you decide to bid.  Bid on one item at a time.  Bid often enough that other bidders realise you are a serious contender and that you won’t be giving up easily.  Know your own limits; decide beforehand how many bids you can afford to use, and do not allow yourself to go beyond that limit.  Have a clear strategy in mind and stick with it; do not be tempted to begin bidding wildly, stay in control.  And try to use other bidders’ behaviour to understand their psychology, i.e. do they want to win more than you do?  You have to be prepared to lose as well; not everyone can be a winner.  Finally, if you see that I am bidding on something, think very carefully before taking me on; I am tenacious and I rarely concede defeat!

What was your strategy when bidding on the car?

First of all I kept a close eye on the other bidders, noting their habits and identifying those who seemed most serious about trying to win the car.  It was important to me to know who were my most serious opponents.  I used Autobid a lot, mainly to ensure that I was always visible to other bidders, that I had a presence.  My strategy was relatively risky, as it meant being prepared to use a lot of bids and to stay in the game right to the end.  But I know I am a determined person, and I was determined to win, so I went all out with a kind of ‘blanket bombing’ campaign, bidding heavily and trying to convey to other bidders that I was essentially unbeatable.  I can look back on my approach and say that it led to me winning, but I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it as a working model for others!

Note from MadBid:

As you probably know the Audi is being made to order and as such there is quite a long lead time. We will be filming the handover and will publish it as soon as it is ready!! Once again congratulations Steve!!

Audi A3 Sportback imparts ‘a lean and mean stance’

Tuesday, May 4th, 2010

The new Audi A3 Sportback has been given the seal of approval after a road-test by a motoring columnist.

A review written for the Coventry Telegraph said that the double edge of the Audi A3’s driver appeal with an all-new 1.6 litre diesel engine along with leading edge efficiency-boosting technology “is paying dividends”.

The revamped model sees the new engine replacing the old 1.9 TDI, and is capable of delivering up to 68.9mpg.

It will do 0-62mpg in 11.4 seconds, with a top-speed of 121mph, while its 109g/km CO2 output is also favourable for the environmentally conscious.

“The start-stop system cuts engine power at idle when the clutch pedal is released and the gear lever is in its neutral position, and then restarts in just two-tenths of a second – more rapidly than any other comparable system – when the clutch is depressed,” the review added.ADNFCR-2524-ID-19757391-ADNFCR

Audi A3 Sportback ‘boasts legendary quality’

Friday, April 30th, 2010

Audi’s latest A3 Sportback model will sell well because of its “legendary” values and good build quality, according to an expert.

Udit Bhandari, blogging for AutoMiddleEast.com, said that a “premium” interior cabin and good driving dynamics were also excellent selling points for the car.

“Powered by a choice of two turbocharged petrol engines; a 160bhp 1.8-litre unit and a 200bhp 2.0-litre unit, the lightweight A3 is known to be a spirited performer and offers an engaging driving experience,” he added.

The machine also has seamless power delivery to the front wheels thanks to its S-tronic automatic transmission gearbox, which uses dual-clutch technology to shift in just 0.2 seconds.

Mr Bhandari went on to say that it has good enough acceleration to provide power on the motorways, while it is equally at home meandering through congested streets.

Ian Johnston, writing for Drivingforce.uk.net, was also pleased with the new model, adding that it is because of cars like this that Audi has such good brand loyalty.ADNFCR-2524-ID-19752937-ADNFCR

A3 Sportback ‘displays Audi’s premium character’

Monday, April 19th, 2010

Audi’s new A3 Sportback displays the manufacturer’s “premium character” thanks to a refined style, agile driving fun and elaborate technology, according to a review.

A blog posting on NetCarShow said that the sporty elegance of the A3 models was already perfectly expressed, however, a number of new exclusive touches has boosted this further.

“The single-frame grille element and the trims on the B-posts are painted in high-gloss black, the lower air inlets have chrome struts, the exterior mirrors are aerodynamically optimised and there are chrome strips in the door handles,” the review stated.

Furthermore, at the rear, all the A3 versions now have a diffuser insert with eye-catching separating edge, while the rear lights have been tinted on the three-door version.

Last month, Carey Russ, writing for TheAutoChannel.com, said that the new Audi A3 Sportback offers “unique combinations” of performance and handling, while entry-level comfort and fuel economy has also been improved upon.ADNFCR-2524-ID-19728126-ADNFCR

New MINI unveiled at Geneva Motor Show

Monday, March 8th, 2010

MINI’s latest model has been officially unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show, showing off what is on offer later this year.

The MINI Countryman will be the first ever car made by the manufacturer to feature four-wheel drive technology to sit alongside its Hatchback, Cabriolet and Clubman models.

AutoTrader reported that the Countryman is wider, longer and taller than any of the other MINIs, offering extra luggage space, with four wide-opening doors.

The new car will also be available in either four or five-seat configurations, with no extra cost to the buyer.

"It’s business as usual inside, with the familiar centrally-mounted speedometer, steering column-mounted rev counter and funky vents and switchgear, but there’s more feeling of space than any MINI before," added the source.

The MINI Countryman will be available from September 2010, starting at £16,000 for the most basic model, and costing as much as £20,810 for the top-spec 181 BHP Cooper S version.ADNFCR-2524-ID-19655520-ADNFCR

Winner Scoops Brand New Mini First

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

Awilson3We speak to the latest winner of a brand new car on MadBid. Andrew from Reading bagged himself a Brand New Mini First for just £967.59 that’s 91% off the RRP. We caught up with Andrew when he was collecting his new car from the prestigious Mini Dealership on Park Lane, London.

Where do you live?

I live about an hour away from London in Reading

What do you do?

I look after children with disabilities.

Can you walk me through the winning moments?

I was actually at work and had topped my account up before I left and set auto-bid before I left, whilst I was at work, I received a text telling me I had won the car, I couldn’t believe it!

What was your strategy?

I didn’t really have a strategy in all honesty, I just made sure I knew how the site worked and kept an eye on other bidders and it worked for me!

How did you hear about MadBid?

I was just surfing the web and looking at cars and other bits when I came across MadBid. I had a look at the site and watched the How it Works Video and decided to have a go myself, I firstly bid on a few items but then decided to bid on the Mini, I just kept going and watching other players and I won. Hard to believe it, but it was, my first win!

What do you think of MadBid?

I think it’s great, it has a lot of quality products available and can save people an absolute fortune. It’s easy to use and is very simple. I for one will certainly be using Madbid a lot more in the future.

What are you going to do with the car?

Well, firstly I have got to find my way home, I should have bid on a Sat Nav aswell! I am going to keep the car, I was looking for a new car anyway and now I’ve put my old car up for sale, which will cover the cost of the mini and the insurance.

What advice would you give to newcomers on the MadBid site?

Definitely bid on the rookie auctions first of all and watch the How it Works video. Watch other bidders and get a feel for the site. Then start bidding on the items you want, auto-bid is a great tool but use it wisely.
