iPod Touch users given takeaway food application

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

Peckish iPod Touch owners can now order food from their handset and have it delivered, saving them from messing around with mountains of menus.

A new Wagamama application which is available to download for free from the App Store was launched earlier this week, meaning that people can now order their food and arrange to collect it at the touch of a few buttons.

iPod Touch owners will be asked to choose their preferred Wagamama restaurant, select the items that they want to order and then make a payment using a secure online system.

Steve Hill, chief executive of the pan-Asian food provider, said that he was “proud” that the firm was introducing the application to owners of the Apple device.

“It’s great to be bringing the speed and quality of Wagamama’s service to the latest in consumer technology,” he added.

A recent launch of a similar Domino’s Pizza application in Australia has led to the firm seeing a “significant” rise in sales.ADNFCR-2524-ID-19634031-ADNFCR

Dropship named as top free iPod Touch game

Friday, February 12th, 2010

Sci-fi adventure Dropship has been named as the best free game available for users of the iPod Touch.

The TechRadar report said that the title, which is similar to classic games such as Gravitar and Thrust, lets people battle gravity and shoot enemies while searching complex vector-based cave formations for allies.

Jungle Crash Land came second in the website’s poll, stating that it is a “fun freebie which wrenches ancient Peter Calver classic Air Attack (which evolved into Blitz and a billion other ‘city bomber’ games) into the present”.

In third place, Flood-It! 2 gained kudos with the reviewers for meeting the rules of great puzzlers, namely keeping things simple but making it challenging.

Gamers have to ‘flood’ the board from the top left of the screen, aiming to make it one colour using a limited number of taps.

Currently in the App Store’s top 25 free titles, Red Ball, You vs Wall and The Imbecile Test are all proving popular.ADNFCR-2524-ID-19613447-ADNFCR

iPad ‘represents future of computing’

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

Apple’s latest product represents the future of computing, according to one industry expert.

Jeremy Horwitz, editor-in-chief of iLounge, said that although certain improvements are needed, the iPad will be able to do big things in the future.

"There are two camps of people right now. Half see the iPad as possessing tremendous potential and a nice feature set, and others compare it in price and features to PC netbooks," he said.

The expert added that the iPad’s strengths are as a media player, book reader and creative tool for design and production work.

He advised Apple that these strengths need demonstrating to the public, while software should also be designed which better exploits them.

Mr Horwitz said that in the future, he would like to see a fold-out rear stand, video camera for chat and more capacity included in the device.

The iPad is set to release in the UK next month, with the Wi-Fi-only version becoming available. A 3G-capable product will then be released later in the year, with April being touted by some websites.ADNFCR-2524-ID-19610865-ADNFCR

Logitech Touch Mouse gives computer users wireless peripherals

Tuesday, February 9th, 2010

A new application has been released into the App Store which allows iPod Touch and iPhone users to control their computer or laptop from their handset.

The Logitech Touch Mouse means that people can point, click, scroll and type from the comfort of their sofa as the app turns the phone’s touchscreen interface into a wireless trackpad and keyboard.

Touch Mouse works over Wi-Fi, meaning that it can be used in any room around the house.

When typing on the handset, text is displayed on the screen, saving users from having to continually look up at their computer monitor or TV and then back down to their phone.

Other useful wireless applications which can be used on the iPod Touch to control functions on a PC include Remote.

This lets users play, pause, skip and shuffle the songs which are playing through their iTunes program, making it an ideal application for using at a party or when the music source is in a different room.ADNFCR-2524-ID-19605424-ADNFCR

Don’t trust your loved one – there’s an app for that

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

A new application has been released in the App Store aimed at helping people who do not trust their loved ones to resist the temptation to read through their messages.

The iTrust, which is available for iPhone and iPod Touch users, informs owners if there has been an attempt to gain access to their phone, while also remembering which features the nosey person tried looking at.

Priced at 59p, the clever program takes a screenshot of the user interface, which then becomes a screensaver when the application is started.

After this, trying to press what appear to be buttons will not be able to access them, but the touch is recorded and then replayed at a later date when the owner returns to the phone.

Bob Nerberg, the 26 year old from Oslo who wrote the application, said that it would help to make relationships stronger.

“It’s something everybody thinks about in a relationship – is my partner reading my texts and emails? Now you can be sure,” he told the Guardian.

According to a new British study, 67 per cent of women check their boyfriends phone regularly, meaning that iTrust could be a handy application for suspicious partners.ADNFCR-2524-ID-19568498-ADNFCR
