Christmas bargain shoppers who are picking up a new laptop need to make sure that they continue to update Windows 7 to protect themselves from the latest security threats.
Tom Royal, deputy editor at Computeractive, said that keeping the operating system up-to-date with the latest security releases is “absolutely vital”.
“No software or operating system is perfect and there are loads of people out there looking to exploit any possible weakness that’s discovered,” he added.
Mr Royal also commented that “the bad guys” move quickly to capitalise on any flaws, so it is “vital” to keep up to date with the latest patches and security updates.
His comments come on the back of research from solutions provider Panda Security, which said that the next two years will see malware developers’ attentions shift to Windows 7 in a major way because of its increasing popularity among owners of new PC and laptop owners.
