Apple has acted quickly to fix noise issues coming from the Macbook and Macbook Pro’s optical drive.
A new firmware update, which is now available to download, addresses a mechanical issue with the drive which occurs during system startup and wake from sleep.
The Macbook upgrade is free for users to download and should activate via the built-in software update mechanism in OS X.
Mac owners will then have to run SuperDrive Firmware Update 3.0 to complete the process, which will further attempt to address the noise issues.
In an afternoon of firmware upgrades, Apple also released the AirPort Client Update for all Macs currently running OS X and Snow Leopard 10.6.2.
This update fixes problems that some people have experienced where AirPort cannot be turned on or off and the network connection intermittently drops off.
Apple has been quick to develop its firmware, with iPod Touch and iPhone users receiving free upgrades which have given them the ability to send media messages and record voice memos, among other features.
