Are Androids taking over the world?

Thursday, February 17th, 2011

And we don’t mean in a Blade Runner futuristic robot type of way, we’re talking about the Android Operating System that is taking the mobile world by storm.

The Operating System has been taken up by manufacturers such as LG, Samsung, Acer and HTC, with all of them experiencing excellent results.

Figures show that phones containing the Android platform have risen sharply in popularity as research firm Canalys revealed – Google’s Android has become the leading platform for smart phones with shipments of Android-based smart phones reached 32.9 million, while devices running the popular Nokia’s Symbian platform trailed slightly at 31.0 million worldwide.Galaxy Tab

The smart phone market continued to soar in the Q4 of last year, with shipments of 101.2 million units, which is an 89% growth from the same time last year.

With a whole host of phones and devices from the Galaxy Tab (aka Samsung P1000 Galaxy) to phones like the HTC Desire, HTC Legend, Samsung Galaxy, Google Nexus  and the Sony Ericsson X10 and more emerging every month and according to a report from DigiTimes, HTC will be releasing 3 new Android-based Tablets this year with the first reportedly being named ‘The Flyer’.

HTC HD3 phone details have been leaked

Monday, July 12th, 2010

HTC looks to have another winner up its sleeve in the shape of the updated HD2 called, surprisingly enough, the HD3.

The HTC HD3 will sport a big 1280×800-resolution, multi-touch, 4.5-inch AMOLED touchscreen, driven by a 1.5GHz Snapdragon processor. Although the screen is bigger the actual handset will be smaller than the HD2’s measuring in at 115mm x 65mm x 10mm.

The phone is likely to be one of the first to run Windows Phone 7 Series and will boast 4G connectivity as well as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. It’ll have 1GB of onboard RAM, with 32GB microSD storage.

The latest release from HTC should be hitting UK shelves before Xmas.

The HTC Wildfire will hit UK Shelves in July this year. The release of the latest HTC smartphone using Google’s Android Platform will be hot on the heels of the new iPhone 4G.

The Battle between Apple and Google for market share will heat up with the new HTC aimed at taking on the mass mobile market.

The Wildfire, with a 3.2 inch touchscreen, is smaller than the Nexus One and Desire, which have 3.7 inch screens, but has the same 5 megapixel camera. Its processor is slower than the Desire and Nexus One which include Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chip.

The HTC Wildfire also allows users to recommend applications – or ‘apps’ – that they have downloaded onto their device, to their friends, either by sending them a text or email with a link to the ‘app’ on the Android marketplace, or by broadcasting details of the ‘app’ on Twitter and Facebook.

Drew Bamford, HTC’s director of user experience, said it is just the first step in making Google’s Android marketplace, which includes many thousands of downloadable programmes, easier for people to navigate.

New Apple iPhone to do battle with HTC Evo 4G

Tuesday, May 4th, 2010

Two brand new, market-changing smartphones will do battle later this year, with the iPhone 4G going up against the HTC Evo 4G.

A blog posting on Autostraddle.com said that both firms will offer excellent touch screen capability, with the iPhone set to give an improved resolution on the 3GS model.

“There’s no denying that 4G connectivity is the future, with speeds rumored to be ten-times that of 3G. Granted it’s not everywhere, but most major cities will see coverage in 2010, with the network expanding from there,” the poster added.

The devices are also expected to be closely matched in terms of speed, with the iPhone 4G building on improvements which were made in the 3GS.

Apple will also make an effort to improve the iPhone’s camera, jumping up from three megapixels, while flash and a front-facing video camera will also be included.

It is also rumoured that the Apple 4G will allow full multi-tasking, meaning that users will not have to quit a game to reply to a text message.ADNFCR-2524-ID-19757364-ADNFCR

New survey shows demand for iPhone is still huge

Thursday, April 15th, 2010

A new piece of research undertaken in the US has highlighted the popularity of the iPhone.

CNN reported that data collected by Piper Jaffray’s Gene Munster found that 31 per cent of teenagers want to own one of Apple’s high-tech handsets, with 14 per cent already having one.

The semi-annual survey into teen buying habits reported that Apple’s “dominance in the consumer electronics and online music markets is going seemingly unchecked”.

Furthermore, the research found that the number of people who want to own an iPhone has doubled from a year ago, while the same could be said for the number of people who now own one.

Apple’s dominance was also clear in the MP3 player market, with data showing that of the 87 per cent of teens who own one of these devices, 92 per cent of that figure own an iPod.

One of the reasons for the success of the iPhone could be down to its burgeoning App Store, which this week welcomed a top-selling PC port of Football Manager.ADNFCR-2524-ID-19722300-ADNFCR
