Sony is bringing gaming to life in their new portable gaming device the PSVita. PSVita is set to launch at the end of 2011 for £249 WiFi and £299 3G. MadBid.com are delighted to see several new built in features include front and rear camera, a microphone, front multi-touch screen and a rear multi-touch pad, motion sensors, a high definition 5 inch OLED display, and GPS location software.
The new features of the PSVita will bring handheld gaming to a new level with Augmented Reality (AR) Technology. Players will be able to interact like never before with new applications like “Near”, “Party”, and “Welcome Park”.
“Near” takes the PSVita ups social connectivity by allowing users to see what games others are playing nearby and gift virtual game related items through location-based gaming. By checking in at geographic locations players can share virtual content like character costumes, weapons, and treasures.
“Party” is an application available on the PSVita that allows users to text chat or voice chat not only while gaming online, but also while connected to the internet at any time. The PSVita will come in two models one with WiFi connectivity and a more expensive 3G model, which will be connected to the internet 24/7.
“Welcome Park” is a PSVita app designed to help players learn the new 3-dimension-like finger motions available on the device such as touch, grab, trace, push, and pull. With a touch screen on the front, a sensor pad on the back, dual analog sticks, and built in motion sensor, gyroscope, and accelerometer capabilities, the new PSVita brings hand held gaming to a new level of reality.
One of the most exciting features of the PSVita is its full backwards compatibility with all PlayStation Portable games. Check out the official video trailer from the E3 conference above to see some of the games that will be enhanced on the new device.

Get ready for a new world of gaming! Nintendo has just released the details of their Wii U at the E3 Conference this week. The Wii U is a gaming system like you have never seen before. It can be used with or without a TV and the feature packed controller will come with a motion sensor like the Wii remote and gyro sensor technology like the 3DS – the Wii U is most certainly a completely new kind of device.
All the talk has been about the Wii U controller, it has a built in accelerometer and gyroscope, rumble feature, camera, microphone, stereo speakers, sensor strip, and stylus. The touch screen controller allows the user to draw right on the screen and project to the TV. With the video camera and microphone the Wii U can also be used to make video calls to friends and fellow gamers. The controller adds a new dimension to the games with a second screen that can be used to supplement the TV screen to view maps and inventory, panoramic views in all directions, and even your golf ball stuck in a sand trap at your feet for Wii Golf.
Called the ‘Swiss Army Knife of controllers’ by Danny Bilson, Executive VP of Core Games, the Wii U gaming system with the new touch screen controller will create a more realistic gaming experience. You can use the controller as a second window to the gaming world, and for some games you can use the controller with the TV and play without ever touching any buttons.
The Wii U system will be backwards compatible with the other Wii software and will have internal flash memory. The system will also play optical discs and downloadable content and has 4 USB ports. Don’t worry if you’re the first of your friends to get your hands on this new technology, you will still be able to play with less tech savvy gamers because Wii U is designed for interplay with the old Wii-mote controllers.
With powerful graphics processing power the games will run in full HD through HDMI, but the touch screen on the controller will not be in HD. Nintendo says that the launch date for the Wii U will be in 2012 between 1 April and 31 December. No prices have been announced but the cost of the Wii U is estimated to be £300-£400.
Well worth the wait and the money, MadBid is very excited for the Wii U and you can be sure we will have it available on our site at MAD MAD prices as soon as it launches! Until then, check out some of our other games and consoles available right now like an Xbox 360 Console with Kinect that just went for £35.04 or a Sony PS3 that went for only £5.82!

Back in 2009 we were seeing 3D films start to become very popular with the release of James Cameron’s Avatar: “gross sales increased over 60% for films exhibited in 3D as compared to traditional film, and this increase is due to higher prices and higher attendance” Nielsen Consumer Insight 2009 tells us. This is great news for the 3D industry as revenue is one of the highest contributing factors in whether a technology becomes popular and is invested in.
It seems that 2011 is the year that 3D technology will be in the mainstream as many of the major electronics manufacturers are making or starting to make equipment that includes it.
We have recently seen the release of several 3D TV’s, for example the Samsung 46inch 3D LCD TV, the Sony 3D Bravias, and will see the release of many more in the near future: “Sony predicted 3D will become as accepted as colour TV” say City AM. This may be the case, but the only downside is that at the moment nearly all 3D TV’s need 3D glasses to view them and it is one of the major barriers to the mass acceptance of 3D TV.
But in October 2010 Toshiba announced the arrival of the first commercially available 3D TV that you can use without glasses (Toshiba REGZA no glasses 3D TV were on sale end of December 2010). It went on sale in Japan only, in 12 inch and 20 inch models and is a good first step in proving that 3D TV without glasses is technically possible and also commercially viable. The televisions use a special lenticular sheet to create an array of nine overlapping images so a viewer sees different images with each eye, creating the illusion of a 3D picture – it is a similar technology to the 3D posters that are available in the shops. Lenticular lenses also have another benefit as they make it possible to see multiple images from many angles and therefore allow more than one person to view the screen at the same time.
Recently Sky have launched Europe’s first dedicated 3D television channel, whilst Virgin has launched a 3D movie channel, this is a great step forward and gives early 3D TV adopters the choice of many more things to view which will help ensure the technology’s popularity – but what about other 3D technology?
We have recently had the release of the Nintendo 3DS, a 3D handheld games console which doesn’t need glasses in order to view the 3D games. It has been at the top of many website bestsellers lists even before it was launched. Amazon UK reported that the pre-order of the Nintendo 3DS was higher than any other game console: “20% more than Sony PS3, 56% than Nintendo Wii and 255% more than Nintendo DSi” says TopsGadget.info – which is remarkable figures when we think about the popularity of the other consoles that are mentioned.
One of the other new technology’s emerging are cameras like the FinePix REAL 3D W1 which has 2 lenses which enables it to create a 3D image that can be viewed on the camera, on the special digital frame they sell or you can have 3D prints made (although these are rather expensive) – we will find more of this type of camera emerging over time and hopefully if they gain popularity this will mean a reduction in the costs of prints and printing and there will be a range of 3D printed products from all size prints to 3D coasters, mouse mats and jigsaws – all the standard items that most photo printing companies offer.
With the emergence of 3D TV’s and of 3D still camera’s it isn’t any surprise that there are 3D camcorders emerging such as the Panasonic HDC-SDT750 3D HD, now consumers can make their own 3D movies in HD and there are others being released so there should be a good choice of camcorders soon.
All of these 3D products make us at MadBid.com think that 3D really, and finally, here to stay – we don’t think that it’ll go the way of red and green glasses that started in the 1950’s, as with better technology and more brands getting behind 3D we are sure that this time it will stick around for a long while.
Sony has announced that they are retiring the Walkman, the revolutionary portable tape player which has enjoyed a 30 year lifespan and sales of over 200 million units.
We may have assumed that the tape player died out long ago, having been overtaken my CD players and then digital MP3 players and iPods, but Sony have continued to sell the classic device allowing older generations access to tapes.
Once the epitome of cool, The Sony Walkman was launched in 1979, and was seen as the must-have gadget of the 1980’s, much like ApplesiPod is today. The innovative product brought music on-the-go to the masses and led the way for the many other portable devices to come.
In recent years the classic style of the Walkman player has been replicated and used within ‘retro’ fashion trends (queue shell suits and leg warmers). Adapted Walkman shells have even been sold as iPod covers! However, the shabby old technology would never have been able to keep up with the high quality and easy-to-store MP3s.
So it is the end of an era for Sony, RIP The Walkman.
Microsoft has unveiled a revolutionary motion controller for it’s Xbox 360. The completely hands-free controller called Kinect also offers voice commands.
The Kinect motion system relies on body motions and gestures picked up from a webcam-style device which looks like it should belong with the Wii. The system which was previously known as Project Natal was launched yesterday and Microsoft showcased a number of games including a Star Wars game, a driving simulation game and an Olympic game.
The Kinect controller senses your body movement and translates it into onscreen actions. This revolutionary new piece of kit will extent the lifespan of the Xbox 360 by another 3-4 years, which will make it the longest running games console in production.
It is widely believed that the addition will be available in the 4th Quarter so just before Christmas.
In other news, Sony have also just released their new Wave controller for the PS3 which will be in direct competition, this will soon be available.
In the latest of the releases of the 3D TV, Sony has launched its Sony Bravia HX803 that went on sale in the UK on Friday. The new Sony will only be available in 40″ and 46″ but boasts a lot of bonus features other than the 3D itself.
There will be two Sony 3D TVs available from this Friday in total (although there is still the higher end HX903 range to come): the Sony KDL-40HX803 and Sony KDL-40HX803. These are full 1080p models with local dimming edge LED backlighting, Motionflow 200Hz Pro-motion enhancement tech, Freeview HD tuners, Bravia Internet Video, DLNA and four HDMIs.
All of which looks mighty impressive on paper. Of course the headlining feature of these TVs is their 3D active shutter technology, which works with special glasses to deliver 3D images.
There will be two Sony 3D TVs available from this Friday in total (although there is still the higherlu-Reay player called the Sony BDV-E370, and it appers that there will be a lot of 3D content on the way from major TV providers including Sky and Virgin.

Both the Playstation 3 and XBox 360 have been streaming mainstream blockbusters for a while now. However Sony has just announced that from Autumn this year PS3 owners wil be able to stream films from MUBI.
Mubi is known as an online cinemateque for quirky movie lovers. With 1,000’s of acclaimed independent, foreign and classic films available it is a welcome addition to the PS3. It is believed that initially there will be around 300 films available to download at launch.
Andrew House, European Playstation boss stated ‘Playstation is about great entertainent, from games to content, delivered straight to the living room or enjoyed on the go’.
PS3 owners will simply need to download the application from the PS Store and then download the films. Although prices are yet to be confirmed it is thought there will be a varied pricing structure similar to iTunes. However some films will be free to download.
It has been rumored that Sony could launch the PSP 2 this june at E3.
The popular portable gaming device is long over due for an upgrade and it looks as if it could be available for fans in the UK just in time for Christmas.
As shown in the picture (right) the PSP v2 is much bigger and guaranteed to offer a much better gaming experience. The sleek design and large screen are key changes for this new PSP.
Sony is set to pitch the PSP v2 against the Nintendo 3DS which will be announced at E3 as well. Apple is also rumoured to be launching the next generation iPhone 4G or iPhone HD by the end of next month.
So for all you tech geeks out there… June could well be the month for you.
The highly-anticipated motion controller for the PlayStation 3 has been given a name and vague release date by Sony.
Known as Move, the next generation peripheral, will be available to gamers in the UK in the autumn, which will place it in direct competition with Microsoft’s Natal motion controller for the Xbox 360 system.
It was also confirmed that the microphone-shaped device will also be accompanied by a sub-controller, which will handle precise character movement, like the Wii nunchuck.
Using the PlayStation Eye camera, the Move system will detect the precise movement, angle and position in 3D space of the motion controller.
This means that whether a person is swinging a golf-club or swishing a sword, the movements will be accurately read and transferred to the screen.
Microsoft’s Natal system will track body movements in 3D, meaning that a controller is not needed. It will also pick up facial expressions and detect change of emotion in a person’s voice to give an in-depth gaming experience.
