Wii are excited about the Wii U, Are U?

Wednesday, June 8th, 2011

Get ready for a new world of gaming! Nintendo has just released the details of their Wii U at the E3 Conference this week. The Wii U is a gaming system like you have never seen before. It can be used with or without a TV and the feature packed controller will come with a motion sensor like the Wii remote and gyro sensor technology like the 3DS – the Wii U is most certainly a completely new kind of device.

All the talk has been about the Wii U controller, it has a built in accelerometer and gyroscope, rumble feature, camera, microphone, stereo speakers, sensor strip, and stylus. The touch screen controller allows the user to draw right on the screen and project to the TV. With the video camera and microphone the Wii U can also be used to make video calls to friends and fellow gamers. The controller adds a new dimension to the games with a second screen that can be used to supplement the TV screen to view maps and inventory, panoramic views in all directions, and even your golf ball stuck in a sand trap at your feet for Wii Golf.

Wii UCalled the ‘Swiss Army Knife of controllers’ by Danny Bilson, Executive VP of Core Games, the Wii U gaming system with the new touch screen controller will create a more realistic gaming experience. You can use the controller as a second window to the gaming world, and for some games you can use the controller with the TV and play without ever touching any buttons.

The Wii U system will be backwards compatible with the other Wii software and will have internal flash memory. The system will also play optical discs and downloadable content and has 4 USB ports. Don’t worry if you’re the first of your friends to get your hands on this new technology, you will still be able to play with less tech savvy gamers because Wii U is designed for interplay with the old Wii-mote controllers.

With powerful graphics processing power the games will run in full HD through HDMI, but the touch screen on the controller will not be in HD. Nintendo says that the launch date for the Wii U will be in 2012 between 1 April and 31 December. No prices have been announced but the cost of the Wii U is estimated to be £300-£400.

Well worth the wait and the money, MadBid is very excited for the Wii U and you can be sure we will have it available on our site at MAD MAD prices as soon as it launches! Until then, check out some of our other games and consoles available right now like an Xbox 360 Console with Kinect that just went for £35.04 or a Sony PS3 that went for only £5.82!

Wii 2 – The Rumours

Wednesday, April 27th, 2011

So the speculation has already begun, even before the Wii’s successor has been officially announced. And it’s not just at MadBid.com, some key executives at Nintendo, in various interviews, have often confirmed it is in development.

Way back in November 2006 Wii was the first console of the current generation to offer motion-controlled gameplay. Due to the relatively low price and Nintendo targeting the family orientated market, the Wii took an early lead in the battle of the consoles soon after it launched – with the company selling 20m units in the first year.

Nintendo Console TimelineBut Wii sales have been declining recently, in the financial year 2009/10 Nintendo still shipped 20.1m Wii consoles, but that fell to 15.1m in 2010/11.

This fall might be due to the introduction of the Xbox Kinect and the PlayStation move. Both bring motion-controlled gameplay to the other platforms and with their advanced graphics this gives them an edge over the Wii.

Market data suggests that Wii’s share of new console sales have now slipped to second place behind Sony’s PS3

“In the first three months of 2011, PS3 held a 36% share, compared with 32% for the Wii and 31% for XBox 360.” BBC suggests

So speculation has started on the next generation of Nintendo consoles. It is expected that there will be a preview at the E3 Expo in Los Angeles in June, and a release some time in 2012 – this certainly fits in with the Nintendo release timeline as consoles are released on average every 5 years (see image) – but everything is being kept quiet for now.

Edge magazine claims that some of the big publishers such as EA, Ubisoft and Activision have already had development kits ‘for months’. It has also been suggested that the console may even have a different name in a bid to appeal more to Western audiences – with the consoles codename currently being ‘Project Café’.

Speculation as to what the new console might have includes:

  • The controller:
    • Screen on the controller – perhaps touch-screen like the DS. The screen might be HD and could be as big as 6”
    • Extra game content can be seen on the supposed controllers screen (such as maps, your possessions, text/speech that replicates what’s on screen and using the touch-screen you can respond, mini games)
    • The controller might even operate as a second console – like a simplified DS
    • It’s suggested that there might be a camera to help with interaction
    • The controller will be more sensitive , with accurate mapping of movements
  • It is hoped it will be backwards compatible, so that users can play existing shop bought and downloaded games
  • It should hopefully be more powerful than the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3
  • There might even be a chance for 3D technology as Nintendo have already embraced this in their handheld 3DS
  • Some say that it will be just an update of the current Wii with perhaps HD – but at MadBid.com we feel that is unlikely – as Nintendo seem to want to break the mould with each new release that they do.

Whatever Nintendo come out with is bound to be interesting – they seem to be willing to push the boundaries. We’re hoping for something a bit different and whatever it is we’re bound to be selling it on MadBid.com as we’re currently selling the other up to date consoles such as the Nintendo 3DS, Ltd Wii Black + Sports, Sony PS3 & Xbox 360 with Kinect.

Fifa 11 vs Pro Evo 11

Friday, October 1st, 2010

The FIFA versus Pro Evolution Soccer battle has been around for some while, and with Fifa 11 released on 28th September and Pro Evo on the 30th September, it looks as if they are going head to head more than ever.

For years Fifa has been renowned for its realism and graphics whilst Pro Evo has proved popular for its usability and in game features. However this year it looks as if Fifa is stepping up its game, EA the game’s creators seem to have really worked on the in-game play and it has worked, it is harder to open up a game, skills are much harder to implement and the scoring wonder goals has become near impossible.

Whilst Pro-Evo seems not to have evolved at all, the only improvement to in-game play is that the system is much more intuitive, as the game wears on more chances open up as players become tired and substitutions have a more visible effect on the game. This is a great feature and Pro Evo 10 was pretty impressive anyway, but they may just have rested on their laurels and that could ultimately cost them.

Xbox 360 to go hands free!

Tuesday, June 15th, 2010

Microsoft has unveiled a revolutionary motion controller for it’s Xbox 360. The completely hands-free controller called Kinect also offers voice commands.

The Kinect motion system relies on body motions and gestures picked up from a webcam-style device which looks like it should belong with the Wii. The system which was previously known as Project Natal was launched yesterday and Microsoft showcased a number of games including a Star Wars game, a driving simulation game and an Olympic game.

The Kinect controller senses your body movement and translates it into onscreen actions. This revolutionary new piece of kit will extent the lifespan of the Xbox 360 by another 3-4 years, which will make it the longest running games console in production.

It is widely believed that the addition will be available in the 4th Quarter so just before Christmas.

In other news, Sony have also just released their new Wave controller for the PS3 which will be in direct competition, this will soon be available.

PlayStation 3 ‘to outsell Xbox 360 in 2010′

Monday, May 10th, 2010

There will be more PlayStation 3s sold across Europe and North America this year than Xbox 360s, according to a gaming giant.

Activision made its prediction recently, stating that the Sony machine will top nine million sales, with the Microsoft console falling just short of eight million sales.

However, it added that the Nintendo Wii will win the battle of the consoles, topping 18 million sales by the end of the year.

Activision’s year-end installation predictions also saw the Wii topping the charts with 63 million, with the Xbox 360 second with 40 million and the PlayStation 3 third with 32 million.

A growth in the handheld market was also seen by the firm, with an increase of 47 million estimated.

The figures came as Sony announced that Final Fantasy IX will hit the PlayStation Network for download in the near future, joining Final Fantasy VII and VIII for fans of the series.ADNFCR-2524-ID-19766585-ADNFCR

Xbox Live voters elect Nick Clegg as prime minister

Thursday, May 6th, 2010

A virtual poll which has been running on Xbox Live has resulted in Nick Clegg being elected as prime minister.

The Liberal Democrats managed to claim 30 per cent of the votes in the poll which was made available as people logged onto their Xbox Live profile.

Furthermore, David Cameron’s Conservative Party received 20.7 per cent of the vote, while 17.6 per cent said that they would vote for Gordon Brown and the Labour Party.

However, 31.6 per cent of Xbox Live users said that they were undecided about which way they would cast their vote, with the Guardian’s Greg Howson stating that Cameron could do with an all-night online session of Modern Warfare 2 to swing people’s opinions.

Stephen McGill, director of Xbox, said: “Whilst the Xbox 360 Live survey is in no way intended to be statistically representative, given the enormous number of votes cast online over the Bank Holiday weekend, we believe our results provide a telling barometer of political attitudes amongst 18 to 30-year-olds nationwide.”

Gamers have also been able to keep up-to-date with the election fever through the Facebook application on Xbox Live.ADNFCR-2524-ID-19762264-ADNFCR

PS3 gamers ‘most likely to be online’

Wednesday, April 14th, 2010

There is a higher percentage of PS3 users connected to the online world via broadband than on any other console, according to new research.

Data supplied by The Diffusion Group found that 78 per cent of all PS3 owners have their console hooked up to the internet for online gaming and other features such as access to the BBC iPlayer.

Furthermore, 73 per cent of Xbox 360 owners are plugged into broadband, while just 54 per cent of Wii owners have done the same.

“Today’s game consoles are increasingly connected to the internet, not just to enhance their gaming experience but to access the growing variety of online media-video,” said Michael Greeson, director of research at Diffusion.

John Funk, writing for the EscapistMagazine.com, said that the results were surprising given the fact that Microsoft pushes its online features as “core” to the experience.

In recent times, a number of games have been brought out for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 which have proved popular online, including Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.ADNFCR-2524-ID-19721463-ADNFCR

Sony Move controller to be released in the autumn

Friday, March 12th, 2010

The highly-anticipated motion controller for the PlayStation 3 has been given a name and vague release date by Sony.

Known as Move, the next generation peripheral, will be available to gamers in the UK in the autumn, which will place it in direct competition with Microsoft’s Natal motion controller for the Xbox 360 system.

It was also confirmed that the microphone-shaped device will also be accompanied by a sub-controller, which will handle precise character movement, like the Wii nunchuck.

Using the PlayStation Eye camera, the Move system will detect the precise movement, angle and position in 3D space of the motion controller.

This means that whether a person is swinging a golf-club or swishing a sword, the movements will be accurately read and transferred to the screen.

Microsoft’s Natal system will track body movements in 3D, meaning that a controller is not needed. It will also pick up facial expressions and detect change of emotion in a person’s voice to give an in-depth gaming experience.ADNFCR-2524-ID-19665745-ADNFCR
